Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has offered a conditional apology to Parliament for claiming some minority members on the Appointment Committee were bribed to approve the nomination of Energy Minister, Boakye Agyako.

After he was found guilty by the Joe Ghartey Committee which investigated the allegations, Mr. Ayariga was asked by the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye to render an unqualified apology to the House.

But the Bawku Central MP who had a lot of reservations about the report said: “MR Speaker, IF YOU SAY I SHOULD APOLOGISE, I APOLOGISE”.

The comment outraged members on the Majority side who were banging on their tables in disapproval of Mahama Ayariga’s conduct.

However, members on the Minority side seemed to support their colleague who is convinced he has been treated unfairly.

Hon. Ayariga argued that, it was not within the remit of the Joe Ghartey Committee to decide issues of contempt.

Meanwhile, given the level of tension on the floor of the House, the Speaker, Professor Mike Ocquaye adjourned sitting to tomorrow Friday, March 31, 2017 for the final ruling on the case.
