The Abeka District Court judge has sentenced him to 9 months in prison. Jihad, who is accused of dipping the face of Evelyn Boakye into blended pepper was dragged to court last March over the charges of offensive conduct, assault and causing harm. His lawyers had at the previous hearing presented terms of an out of court settlement in an attempt to get the court to discharge the accused person. All is not well with EC; its touted credentials are badly exposed

It started like a simmering fire.  We could not put it out.  Now the fire has engulfed our touted independent and respected institution, the Electoral Commission of Ghana. The damage has exposed the institution badly and thus threatening the once strong reputation it held.  So, who will be the Fire Service here? We have woken up this week with one huge troubling news item, may be gargantuan is the best word to describe it. The news has cast our Electoral Commission (EC) in an embarrassing light. The media once again has succeeded in setting the agenda, taking our minds off from army worms that are destroying hundreds of acres of farms. Our minds have momentarily been shifted from the galamsey menace that does not seem to be going away anytime soon. Earlier this week, it was reported

Be careful of demons – Kwesi Botchwey cautions government

Former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, has advised current managers of the Ghanaian economy to be careful of demons that hover around public policy lapses and destroy fiscal consolidation. According to him, these demons have for decades worked as hard as the builders. Lack of focus on economic growth, he says, gives the demons room to operate. He was speaking to a packed audience in Accra at the launch of a 320-page book entitled, Africa in Search of Prosperity – Ishmael Yamson’s Essays on Development Economics, Business, Finance and Economic Growth. It was launched by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The book was edited by Ivor Agyeman-Duah – a visiting associate professor and director of the Wole Soyinka Foundation at the University of Johannes

NDC threatens to sack Speaker

The minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament yesterday sent a strong signal to the speaker of the house, Prof Mike Oquaye, that it would start an impeachment process against him if he did not shed his political cloak in the handling of the affairs of the House. According to the minority members, the speaker has obsessively been biased against them and had persistently treated them with disdain, suppressing, bullying and denying them the opportunity to have their say, especially their leaders, who are supposed to be given unlimited space to express their views and sentiments on issues on the floor. The warning followed an incident in the House yesterday when the speaker allowed the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, only one slot of question to pose to the Minister ...

Nana Akufo-Addo is being set up to be embarrassed by some faceless persons who clandestinely introduced some clauses into the special prosecutor’s Bill to limit the prosecutor from investigating certain kinds of corruption and also removing corruption from the jurisdiction of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). This is the assertion of former Attorney General, Martin Amidu. According to him, the clauses, which were not part of the original bill were introduced by “men and women who might have wormed their way into public office by deceiving the President about their credentials of integrity and honour to render loyal service to him and the Republic of Ghana.” Martin Amidu said Clause 3(4) which was also not part of the original draft of the Bill, negates the whole prom
