The Ghana Police Service has arrested three more persons in connection with the death of Major Maxwell Mahama. This brings the number of persons arrested to forty-four. Youth of Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region have held a burial service for three fishes found dead in the Nyinahin Amaano river. During the burial service, which was done same way as conducted for dead persons, saw the youth performing rituals to avert any tragedy befalling the community. The dead fishes were discovered during a clean-up exercise undertaken by the youth to clear the river banks of filth. After the rituals they were laid to rest with a white piece of cloth. Five women are in the grips of the Assin Fosu Police Command for unlawful possession and peddling of substances suspected to be ‘wee’. The five were arrested in the Assin Fosu township after a tip off resulting in a swoop by the police to rid the area of criminals ahead of the Easter festivities. The five are Abena Boaduwaa, Akosua Akyea, Ama Serwaa, Comfort Adu and Afia Akyere. Three men whom the police explained are the kingpins of the drug trade were also picked up in the swoop. Six parcels of the weed concealed in Kufuor gallons were retrieved from the culprits. A 67-year-old woman at Nwenso Number One in the Ashanti region has lost her life after an anointing oil being used to heal her mysteriously sparked fire burning her to death. Yaa Donkor’s clothes reportedly caught fire during the healing process. She died three days later while on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). The judge, Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, said the complainant and the private legal practitioner Irene Aborchie should not leave the court’s premises at the same time. An Accra High Court has ordered government to allocate money to the domestic violence support fund to provide free medical care for victims of domestic violence. Justice Anthony Yeboah granted the reliefs sought by a private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu after the Attorney-General's Department failed to enter an appearance. During proceedings, Martin Kpedu revealed that the Fund, a statutory creation has not received a dime from government, at least, 10 years after it was created by the Domestic Violence Act passed in 2007.
