Key suspect in Kumasi ‘lady thief’ abuse case remanded

A Kumasi Circuit court on Friday remanded into prison custody one of the key suspects in a case in which a 27-year old woman was stripped naked and molested publicly for stealing at Kejetia in Kumasi. Kwasi Gyamfi, 28, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a crime to with indecent assault charges as an explanation. But the court, presided by His Worship Adams Seidu remanded him into prison custody for two weeks to re-appear on March 15, 2017. Mr Gyamfi, a driver, plies between Kumasi and Abuakwa turned himself in last Wednesday after he has was declared wanted by the police. It follows wild public condemnation after a video of the assault on the lady went viral on social media. The disturbing video starts at a point where the young lady had been stripped of her clothes.

A pastor at Domeabra near Pokuase in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl. Pastor Vincent Kete pleaded guilty to defiling the daughter of his friend of 25 years. Presenting the facts in court, prosecutor Inspector Kofi Atimbiri said the accused called the victim to his room on Tuesday, February 7 and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her. The accused and the victim’s father, as friends, lived in a single room in a mission house of their church. Government’s revenue from rent increased by more than 4000 percent between 2015 and 2016, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has said The amount collected increased from GH¢145,434.51 to GH¢6,739,107.76 between the period. According to the GRA, revenue from excise recorded the worst performance as it dropped by 91.75 percent within the one year period. Revenue from excise dropped from GH¢336,286.99 in 2015 to GH¢27,742.27 in 2016. The figures were contained in a report by the Special Revenue Mobilisation task force of the GRA. The task force which commenced operations in 2015, collected a total of GH¢183,559,387.70 in revenue under nine different tax types.
