“Never go back.” What does that mean? From observations of successful people, clinical psychologist and author of Never Go Back: 10 Things You'll Never Do Again (Howard Books, June 2014), Dr. Henry Cloud has discovered certain “awakenings” that people have—in life and in business—that once they have them, they never go back to the old way of doing things. And when that happens, they are never the same. In short, they got it. “Years ago, a bad business decision of mine led to an interesting discussion with my mentor,” Dr. Cloud says. “I had learned a valuable lesson the hard way, and he reassured me: ‘The good thing is once you learn that lesson, you never go back. You never do it again.’ “I wondered, what are the key awakenings that successful people go through that forever chang
Five people have died after a light plane crashed into a shopping centre in Melbourne, Australia. The charter flight appeared to have had a “catastrophic engine failure” shortly after taking off from the small Essendon Airport, said Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Stephen Leane. Everyone on board is believed dead. “At this stage the advice we have is there are no fatalities other than on the aircraft itself,” the commissioner said. The shopping centre was not open to the public at the time. “Looking at the fireball, it is incredibly lucky that no-one was at the back of those stores or in the car park of the stores, that no-one was even hurt,” he added. Local media reported US nationals were among those on the plane, which was bound for Tasmania’s King Island. “Today is a
Couples have been urged to sanctify themselves in the blood of Jesus before having sexual intercourse with their partners. This, according to elder Emmanuel Boateng will ensure safe delivery should the woman get pregnant in the process. Addressing a congregation at a church event, the Mpoasi District Elder of the Church of Pentecost said praying after sex will prevent women from going through caesarian section during childbirth. “The married couple in this house if you are going to make love to your partner, pray and soak the bed in the blood and better things will come out from it”. “If you don’t want to go through caesarian when you are making love tell God that this sex I’m having, let a holy thing come out of it”. Turkish police have detained more than 800 people over alleged links to Kurdish fighters in nationwide operations, according to state media. Police conducted simultaneous raids in 37 different provinces and taken 834 people into custody, state-run Anadolu Agency quoted police forces as saying on Tuesday. Along with the suspects, two Kalashnikovs, 11 guns, 15 rifles and ammunition were seized, police said. The operations come as Turks prepare to vote on April 16 on replacing the parliamentary system with the stronger presidency sought by President Tayyip Erdogan. Th...
I am deeply concerned by the military mutinies that have beset Côte d’Ivoire in recent weeks. They are a setback not only for the country’s economic development and reputation, but also for Africa’s democratic progress. Resorting to arms and holding the country to ransom is not an acceptable way to seek redress for soldiers’ grievances. The armed forces must act within the law and express their demands peacefully through the military hierarchy, not through the barrel of a gun or through intimidation of the civilian population. Most importantly, such acts are out of step with Africa’s long struggle to achieve democratic and accountable government. We, as Africans, must ensure that our countries’ destinies are determined by democratically-elected leaders reflecting the will
Are you about to make the biggest mistake of your entire love life? What you may not know about Valentine’s Day is that it often turns out to be the beginning of the end for many couples. Here’s why … Many people evaluate the overall state of happiness and success in their marriage or romantic relationship based on whether or not their expectations for Valentine’s Day get met. Unmet expectations easily become the final straw after a year’s worth of unfulfilling romantic love. Theses increasing levels of disappointment may lead to affairs and, ultimately, turn Valentine’s Day into one of the leading causes of divorce. According to a study of divorce filings by legal referral sites Attorney Fee and Avvo, February is the busiest month of the year for divorce filings. P
President Donald Trump begins his 11th day in office shrouded in crisis, roundly criticized for a chaotic unveiling of immigration measures and under new scrutiny after he fired the nation's top law enforcement officer who refused to enforce them. On an extraordinary night of political drama Monday, the President dismissed acting attorney general Sally Yates by letter after she instructed the Justice Department not to defend Trump's immigration order, which bans travelers from seven Muslim-majority nations and temporarily halts refugee arrivals. Who is Sally Yates? Yates was a remnant of the Obama administration, only in office until the Senate confirms Jeff Sessions as the next attorney general. But her dismissal reflected the sudden political forces unleashed in Washington i...
Get it together, guys. As a woman with a lot of guy friends, I am always amazed at the things they will “fall for” or overlook when they are really into a woman. I am also amazed at the fact that when these unhealthy behaviors are pointed out to them, they start making excuses for the object of their desire. Love may be blind, but lust is blind, deaf, and “dumb”—in the traditional sense of the word. One big difference in the way men and women approach new relationships is that women tend to “vet” potential partners with much greater care. We are very interested in how our nearest and dearest respond to our love interest, and listen with particular care to what the men in our life have to say. Because guys know the guy “tricks” and they are more likely to spot a “trickster”
