In my journey as a disability advocate, this has been my mantra. I have had the chance to meet a lot of disabled people and the truth of the matter is; they’ve all got abilities.

Let me shock you, everyone is disabled. Yes I just said that, the surprising thing is we all have a special way of doing something that someone can’t.

I can bend and touch my knee with my forehead, but someone can’t do the same thing. In that particular instance, the person is automatically disabled. Yes, because he or she couldn’t do what I did.

Disabled people are the talented and skillful people with special ways of doing stuffs.

I worked in one of the hospitals in Ghana as a Rehabilitation intern and I had the chance to have interactions with a lot of people with cognitive issues.

One thing I realize was those with the severe issues still were smart in their interactions. I had a cerebral palsy little girl who always visit the clinic once in a week.

Her condition was severe but she was smart when it comes to arithmetic math.

She has a special way of solving them which was so mind blowing. As a family, you can’t just say my child is visually impaired so there is nothing he or she can do in the world and his or her education isn’t a priority.

I learnt braille as part of my course in the University and one of my Teaching Assistant was a brilliant visually impaired lady who had first class in rehabilitation.

Education is very much important in the lives of Person’s with Disability. We can’t ignore them.

The World Health Organization has made it possible for the inclusive society I almost every country.

Let’s embrace them, show them love and make them part of the society.

Let’s end stigmatization among PWDS.

Follow me on my twitter handle and let’s advocate for Person’s with Disabilities.
